This Primrose, Primula viallii is a hardy and deciduous perennial which forms rosettes of somewhat hairy, toothed leaves over which bloom poker-like spikes of tubular flowers that are crimson when in bud but later open to violet-purple in summer (it's double L in 'viallii'...sorry, but if I change the post title it'll mess with the link.) Neutral to acid soil in partial shade for these little ladies, please! The fairy just showed up unannounced and unbidden...you may have to click to enlarge to see her there.
