A 'Shroom Home on Silvery Tree Path!

Image
Printed several moons ago from a slide of an actual photograph, then saved and published, this image of my drawing 'Shroom Home on Silvery Tree Path is actually an illustration from the first children's (dummy) book written and drawn by yours truly. Over time the image had yellowed, in part due to the embossing I had applied with a "silver" oil pencil (which was aluminum - ex : the raindrops!) to the original drawing on black paper so I've adjusted the digital image's tone, saturation, etc., and present for you here what is hopefully a more viewable version of my drawing:

Twyla's Toilette undone then complete!

Image
April 3, 2022 Guess it's something of a secret here on Secret Moon Art but originally I had created this Art Gallery with a plan to share my drawings in progress , then add the completed version of the same illustration. And some of them were published here just that way although not always in the same post, or even with a link to the completed version ( mah bad! ). So as an example today, I'm putting together two versions of 'Twyla's Toilette' and adding a link to a different drawing, 'Analise', which was displayed in just such a manner. If the comparison shows nothing else, perhaps it suggests the foibles, the fun, and the process of perpetrating drawings on black paper! First, here's Twyla's Toilette very obviously incomplete and rather on the ghostly side: Now here's Twyla's completed portrait (looking more lively, I think!): Then if you're up for it, here's a link to two versions of one of my fanciful figure studies tit...

Portrait of Analise now complete!

April 22, 2018: here's a view of the previously published yet incomplete Portrait of Analise and a larger view of her freshly completed portrait, below : She's not as ghostly now, don't you agree? Or is she... all images (c) 2018+ Jude Cowell Art pencil on black paper

New! Incomplete Gal (Name This Drawing)

Image
In the olden days of Secret Moon Art ('round about 2005 and beyond) I sometimes posted unfinished drawings in this gallery, then published the complete version a bit later. Since I recently began drawing again, the urge to return to this 2-step practice has overtaken my best judgment. So here is my latest attempt--its working title, Incomplete Gal : Of course, in a certain sense, as long as we're still around, we're all incomplete, are we not? Even so, if you'd like to see the finished drawing, please share this post and/or comment...your suggestions for her name are welcome too! Does the gal pictured above favor anyone you know?

Petrifyin'! Spooky Fairy Night most PVs ever!

Image
Zounds! My drawing Spooky Fairy Night takes all the cake crumbs as Secret Moon Art's top ranking most-viewed image ever. Published here November 2009, almost 900 peeks have accrued for what really is a simple drawing of white on black. Some shading has been added but only by hand. As for your part, m'dears, I'd say 900 peeks is Very Well Done! ~:~ Secret Moon Art : five years & still publishing the original drawings and paper collage images of Jude Cowell! Tea Party at 318 Silvery Tree Path!

Image
318 Silvery Tree Path is a fairly recent drawing inspired by the first children's dummy book I ever created called Silvery Tree Path . Fairies were not supposed to show up in my drawings back then for they weren't consciously invited, yet pink fairies appeared anyway which is a typical happening when you draw on black paper! You know, there's something about black paper that I've always liked. Perhaps it's the 3D feeling I get when shading layers of colors as images form and seem to come out of the blank page toward the viewer which encourages whatever visionary or visualizing ability a pencil artist possesses. Actually there's almost a sculptural quality which I never get when drawing on white paper. There can be a definite spiritual, cosmic quality as well - perhaps because the black areas suggest an abundant cosmos of vast space to my astrologer's eye. I am a fan of the cosmos! Anyway, you see here one of my 'shroomhome' illustrations wherein tea...

Art Slideshows, Spinning Floral Cubes, and a Flower Fairy!

Image
Here's a rather simple new drawing of the Secret Moon Art persuasion: Flower Fairy in Rain . She seems to be caught in the act, doesn't she? ;p My usual Prismacolor oil and Rexel Derwent watercolour pencils have been used on black paper for an almost magical effect that I hope you enjoy!
